When choosing a kennel for a Labrador Retriever it is important that your dog will have enough space within the kennel to move around comfortably inside. Dogs love to both curl up and stretch out when asleep so always ensure there is room for your dog to do both. We suggest our large dog kennel would be suitable for a Labrador Retriever but always check the measurements against your requirements.
A Labrador Retriever is a strongly built medium sized dog which can grow to a height of 22 inches. As it was once known as the Lesser Newfoundland dog, it is assumed that the breed is related to the Newfoundland Breed. Although both breeds are much different in stature they share the unique characteristic of webbed feet.
Labrador Retrievers are well known for their stamina and physical abilities like swimming, running and jumping. They have been used more than any other dog in areas of service to humans, for example: guide dog, hearing dogs for the deaf, drug and bomb detection, search and rescue etc.
Labradors are for owners who like exercise as they have energy to spare and love to play. They require a large outside space to burn off all that excess energy and/or regular walks. Playing fetch in water is one of their favourite pastimes and will provide hours of fun for both owner and dog alike.
Comfortable both indoors and out, they love being close to their owners. Retrievers will quickly learn what will please their masters and with proper training will make a very loyal and biddable dog. It is widely thought that the potential to which a Labrador puppy can grow up to be is 95% down to the training by its owner and there is very little that they cannot learn.
While their coat is short and dense they don’t shed less than any other dog. To keep a Labradors coat looking healthy regular brushing is required to remove dead hair and to stimulate the natural oils that add shine to their coat. Their ears should be kept clean and regularly checked for infection and mites. If your dog is shaking its head or scratching at its ears constantly this may indicate a problem with its ears.
