When you buy your dog a new kennel for your dog, time will need to be spent getting your dog used to their kennel. Some dogs will love their new kennel straight away, while others may take a little longer to become accustomed to their new home. Either way, I have a list of simple tips that can be used to hopefully help this process.
Be Patient
Moving to a new home can be quite stressful. Some patience will thus obviously be needed to get them used to it. Spending time outside with your dog at their new kennel may help this. If they see that you are comfortable with their new home, soon they hopefully will be too. This may take time, but it will be worth it.
Use toys
Using some of your dog’s favourite toys will for sure help this process. By distracting him by playing with him in the kennel he will soon become used to it. He will have become so distracted by the toys that the once unfamiliar house will become a more familiar home very quickly.
Use treats
By associating treats with the kennel they dog will associate good things with the kennel. This will make them think that this kennel might not be so bad after all. At the start place some treats in the back of the kennel and wait for him to go in and fetch them. Make sure to praise him lots for doing so.
Put his feed bowl in his kennel
Place his feeding bowl at the back of his kennel. This will mean that if your dog wants to eat that they will have to venture into the kennel. They will then begin to associate the kennel with food and want to spend time there.
